Helicopter Aircrew Officer
Winch Operator / External Rescue

This course is the qualifying course in non-pilot helicopter aircrew
operations, providing technical training for aircrew in respect to all
operational missions in the Search & Rescue (SAR) and Aerial
Work environments.

On successful completion of this course, students are awarded a
Certificate III in Aviation (Rescue Crewman) and/or Certificate IV in

Aviation (Aircrewman) with additional Units of Competency under

the AQTF and industry standard CASA (Civil Aviation Safety
Authority) C.A.O. 29.11 Appendix III Winching Approval.

Course Information:

The Helicopter Aircrew Officer Course is made up of four (4) stages,
two (2) compulsory (Stages 1 & 2) and two (2) optional stages:


Stage 1 - Correspondence based theory including Study Manual /
               Guide, DVD presentations, online research/activities.

Stage 2 - Practical Week (Duration - 7 to 10 Days depending on 
               course size and RPL)

Stage 3 - Work Experience. Graduates of Stage 2 are rostered at
               their request for work tasks with our experienced crews.
               During this stage of training they work with an experienced
               aircrew instructor to gain further skills and industry
               knowledge.

Stage 4 - Limited supervision work experience. When graduates get
               to this level, they hold the positions deemed appropriate to
               their skills and knowledge levels. They work as Rescue
               Swimmers and Aircrew on selected company missions
               gaining valuable flying hours and experience.

Total Course Sessions:

Thirty Five (35) sessions, combining theory & practical, with pre- and
post-flight briefings, simulated and/or actual flying training

Certifications:

- Certificate III in Aviation (Rescue Crewman)

- Certificate IV in Aviation (Aircrewman)

- Various Certificates of Competency depending on selection (AQTF)

Locations:
Sydney & Perth, Australia (worldwide on request and selected dates)

Pre-requisites:
Good fitness, strong swimmer. It is not a pre-requisite, but
prospective students (if in doubt) can undertake a Class 2 Aviation
Medical (Private Pilot License standard)

Cost: 
Aus$ 5,500.00 per person (Rescue Officer - Cert III only)
Aus$ 8,800.00 per person (Winch Operator & Rescue Officer - Cert III & IV)
(prices include GST, refreshments, PPE gear, etc.)

Additional Information:

Students undertaking the Winch Operator specialty are also included
on the Rescue Officer sessions as part of their dual course qualification

Both courses cover the following:


- Over Land Winching (open area, confined, stretcher, night techniques)
- Over Water Winching (open ocean)
- High Line Transfer Technique (boat to helicopter)
- Sling Load Operations
- Emplaning & Deplaning (over land & water hover-exit & land based entry)
- Helicopter Underwater Escape Training (HUET)

- All aspects of crew duties, including navigation, SAR Observer, 
  radio operations, and Normal & Emergency Operating procedures,
 
to name a few.
